Needles for sewing machines

There are a lot of different needles on the market, both type and brand. Here is a short overview of the types available for different projects and quality of fabrics. They are all available at your dealer.

UNIVERSAL NEEDLE

Universal needles have a slightly rounded point and come in a variety of sizes.
For general sewing in a variety of fabric types and weights.

TOPSTITCH NEEDLE

Avery large eye on this needle makes it the ideal choice for top stitching with heavier threads.
Both the eye and groove are larger, for techniques such as machine tatting or crazy quilt
embellishment with silk buttonhole twist, 12 and 30 weight cotton and other decorative threads.

EMBROIDERY NEEDLE

Embroidery Needles have a special scarf, a slightly rounded point, and slightly larger eye to avoid damage to thread and materials.
Use with metallic and other specialty threads for embroidery and decorative sewing.

DENIM NEEDLE

Denim needles have a sharp point to penetrate tightly woven fabrics without deflecting the needle.
For canvas, denim, microfibers.

QUILTING NEEDLE

Quilting Needles (H-Q) have a special tapered point and light ballpoint to sew through layers and batting with ease.

STRETCH NEEDLE

Stretch Needles have a special scarf to eliminate skipped stitches when there is flex in the fabric.
For knits, swimwear, fleece, synthetic suedes and leathers.

MICROTEX NEEDLE

Microtex or sharp needles (H-M) have a sharp point like Denim needles but are available in smaller sizes.
Use for microfiber to topstitch lightweight tightly woven fabrics.

BALL POINT NEEDLE

Ballpoint Needles (H-SUK) have a more rounded point that will not run or snag specialty knits because it enters the fabric between the knit fibers.

LEATHER NEEDLES

TITANIUM NEEDLE

This needle has improved strength and is perfect to use on sticky material. Comes in different types and sizes; quilt, Embroidery and universal.

SPECIALTY NEEDLES

WING NEEDLE

The Wing Needle has wide wings on the side of the needle to poke holes in the fabric when sewing entredeux and other hemstitches on natural fiber fabrics.

TWIN NEEDLE

The Twin needle (Double needle) has two separate needles mounted onto one shank. Use for decorative sewing, top stitching and twin needle tucks. Available in sizes (70, 80, 90) and types (universal, denim, embroidery) and distances between the two needles in mm (1.6, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 4.0). The larger the number the wider the space between the needle. Use the 4.0 for straight stitch only.
